Hello world! My name is Alexa & I’m from the Columbia, South Carolina area! I’m a Biomedical Engineering major on the pre-health track, with a minor in Chemistry. I’m involved with a lot on campus, including Greek life, FEMMES, NAMI, Duke Students social media team, and was a freshman advisory counselor (FAC) last year. I am also a TA for the new EGR 101 course this year-so you might see me in your class! Two facts about me that my mom loves to share: 1) I have a patent for a feeding utensil I created to help children with cerebral palsy! And 2) I currently work at a local hospital as a licensed emergency medical technician! In my time here at Duke, I have been involved with Duke Engineers for International Development (DEID), Grand Challenge Scholars, Pratt Research Fellows, and Duke Symphony Orchestra. My Grand Challenge Scholars Portfolio has focused on the challenge of "providing access to clean water", so a lot of my experiences at Duke have revolved around that. I'm a MechE from Santa Rosa, CA, interested in using Engineering the help protect the environment. My interests center around energy and renewables, and I have taken all sorts of coursework from all over Pratt--after all, I've declared my major 4 different times leading up to this point. I enjoy finding weird and random applications of engineering, and the places my studies have taken me--from a hippie commune in Panama, to the bustling streets of Dublin, to the inside of a massive Hydro-Electric plant right here in North Carolina.
