Prof Ryan Bolick

Ryan Bolick is an educator, designer, engineer, and entrepreneur whose work sits at the intersection of technology, product development, and human-centered design. He has been a founding team member of two Y Combinator-backed startups, worked on software scaled to millions, and developed more than 10 FDA 510(k)-cleared surgical devices currently on the market.

At Duke, he teaches across the Pratt School of Engineering and Innovation & Entrepreneurship, with a focus on product development, user experience, frontend engineering, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship. His teaching emphasizes learning through making, helping students move from ideas to working products while developing the design judgment and technical fluency needed to build in an AI-enabled world.

He is also the founder of Byline, a platform focused on authorship, responsible AI, and transparency in writing. His broader interests include human-centered AI, emerging models of product development, design and engineering education, and the evolving relationship between people and intelligent tools.
