Be a part of an 85-year-old tradition! Win money!

DukEngineer Magazine is an annual printed publication written by Duke students since 1940. This year, we’re scouring campus-wide for writers who can bring the Duke experience to life, and we’re offering cash awards for the best three submissions!

Here are the rules:

  • Any current Duke student of any program from undergraduate to doctoral is welcome to submit articles.
  • Submission deadline is December 20, 2025.
  • Articles MUST involve Duke Engineering students, faculty or staff in some way, shape or form. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Duke Engineering faculty research and profiles
    • Duke Engineering buildings and facilities
    • Interdisciplinary teams/projects/clubs featuring the experiences of Duke Engineering students or faculty
    • Duke Engineering classes, clubs, events, and other extracurricular or cocurricular activities
  • Articles must be between 800 and 1500 words long.
  • Articles including interesting, relevant, high-resolution photos earn extra points.
  • Articles that have been published elsewhere are acceptable, but extra consideration will be given to original content.
  • Send article submissions and questions to Claire Andreasen, DukEngineer Magazine’s editor-in-chief

The prizes:

  • First Place: $500
  • Second Place: $300
  • Third Place: $200

Up to 10 articles total will be chosen for publication. Anyone who does not earn a cash prize but does have their article chosen for publication will receive awesome Duke Engineering swag.
