The reproductive system is critical for a person’s health and wellness and the ability to have a family. Disease and Dysfunction of the reproductive system can cause significant health sequela such as infertility, premature aging and reduced health span, particularly in women. Therefore, understanding the biological basis of reproductive health and developing innovative approaches to treat reproductive disease are critical for the health of individuals, families and society. In this lecture, I will discuss our work integrating stem cell biology, developmental biology and genomics to create models of the reproductive system with an emphasis on regenerating cells of the ovary. I will also discuss the ethical, legal and social implications of the work that we do and the value of public engagement in science.
