TechConnect is less formal than a traditional career fair.

TechConnect

Bringing students and tech sector employers together

TechConnect is less formal—and more social—than a traditional career fair.

No registration is required for students. All Duke engineering and computer science students are invited—undergraduate and graduate students.

At TechConnect, students chat with employer representatives, many of whom are Duke alumni.

A panel of employer representatives — many of whom are Duke alumni — provides advice to students seeking internships and full-time jobs.

The discussion is followed by a vibrant networking event—with specific chat areas and signage for each company.

TechConnect is hosted by Duke Engineering, the Duke Department of Computer Science and the Duke Career Center.

Companies are encouraged to participate—interact with our students in an informal social setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Industry Representatives

Can we bring corporate giveaway items or literature about the company or jobs?

We ask that you only bring business cards or business card-sized info. TechConnect is more focused on the networking and information exchange aspect of connecting employers with students than swag. This also reduces the environmental impact of recruiting as well as your need to haul in extra items, not to mention the $ it will save in product and shipping!

What is the dress code?

Business casual is the typical attire for employers. Most company representatives wear their company polo and slacks. Students will tend to dress more formally as they view this as an opportunity to make an important connection with industry representatives.

Will students bring resumes?

While TechConnect is more of a networking event, students do bring resumes.

Who attends TechConnect?

TechConnect is open to Engineering and Computer Science students currently enrolled in a BS, MEMP, Meng, MS, or PhD program at Duke .

What is the set-up like for the networking event?

Duke Engineering and CS provide a café table and company signage for the networking portion of the event.

What do I need to bring to TechConnect?

Your knowledge of the company and business cards!

Students

How do I prepare for TechConnect?

Make note of the companies attending (we advertise) and research the companies you are most interested in. If you will be bringing a resume, bring several copies. Also talk with professors, peers and others about their knowledge of the companies. Be yourself and be ready to talk!

Who may attend TechConnect?

TechConnect is open to Engineering and Computer Science students currently enrolled in a BS, MEMP, Meng, MS, or PhD program at Duke University. Companies from all industry sectors are represented at the event!

Should I bring a resume?

While TechConnect is more of a networking event, students are welcome to bring resumes.

What should I expect during the networking portion of the event?

Employer representatives will be available at designated areas to chat with you about your background, interest in their company and review opportunities available.

What do I need to bring to TechConnect?

Your questions and resumes, if you wish! Please remember to research the companies prior to attending so that you are able to maximize your time asking relevant questions instead of asking what they do.

What is the dress code?

Students will tend to dress more formally. Business casual is the typical attire for employers. Most company representatives wear their company polo and slacks.

Is food service provided?

Yes! We provide heavy hors d’oeuvres, sodas and water for the evening event.
