Stephanie Mazzerina recently started her new role as executive assistant to Jerome P. Lynch, Vinik Dean of Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering, continuing her eleventh year with Duke University.

Mazzerina was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Berkeley College and moved to North Carolina in the 90s to pursue her career as a legal assistant for Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, a law firm in Durham. Mazzerina began her time at Duke as a staff assistant in the Office of Counsel, where she worked for seven years. From there, Mazzerina transitioned to a senior administrative assistant for Vincent Price, president of Duke University, for four years.

Mazzerina was drawn to the Pratt School of Engineering by its prestigious and formidable reputation as a top-ranked engineering school and the opportunities for growth within the position.

“I followed the Duke Engineering Instagram stories for some time, and I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed learning about all the exciting things happening and the growth within the school,” Mazzerina said. “I just think it’s a great place to work and I’m so happy to be here.”

As an executive assistant to Dean Lynch, Mazzerina will oversee his obligations and manage his calendar and email, and coordinate activities of the dean including meetings, special events and travel. She will also manage the hiring process of support staff and conduct performance appraisals to ensure the continued success of the Pratt School of Engineering. And at the end of each fiscal year, Mazzerina will assist in creating financial projections and preparing the office budget.

Mazzerina is looking forward to partnering with members of the Duke Engineering leadership team on special projects and initiatives and serving as a liaison with university administrative and departmental personnel.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know my new colleagues and finding a new permanent home at Duke,” Mazzerina said. “I want to continue to learn about the projects happening within the school and how our students are making an impact on our world.”

Mazzerina says she’s always willing to help someone out and encourages people to stop by the office and say hello.
