Welcoming President Xi to Washington D.C.
In late September, Zhiping Mao, a PhD student in Bob Kielb’s MEMS lab, was invited to Washington D.C. as the representative of Duke Chinese students to welcome President Xi Jinping, the current chairman and president of the People's Republic of China. This was the second time President Xi visited the U.S. and President Obama.
Zhiping, along with the student representatives from all major universities on East Coast, lined up on streets and created a warm welcome ceremony on the way from Sheraton Hotel to the Whitehouse early in the morning. A flag of Duke University (translated to Chinese) was elaborately prepared and brought to the ceremony site to show Duke Spirit. The flag will be on display in the Fitzpatrick Center, in the entry area outside Twinnie’s. Red T-shirts with Chinese panda and American eagle logo were designed as the uniform for all representatives, indicating the long-lasting friendship of China and the U.S.
