New BME Director of Undergraduate Studies Appointed

Marc Sommer, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, will serve as director

Beginning Fall 2014, Marc Sommer, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, will serve as Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) for the Duke Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Elizabeth Bucholz, a University Lecturer in BME, has been appointed Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies (ADUS).

In these roles, Sommer and Bucholz will guide undergraduate students by providing advice and leadership.

BME Chair Ashutosh Chilkoti said he was excited about the direction the two will take the undergraduate education program. "Both are deeply committed to and passionate about undergraduate education, and together they will make a terrific team that will steer the undergraduate program to even greater heights of excellence," Chilkoti said.

He also thanked outgoing DUS Wanda Neu and former ADUS Robert Malkin for their efforts. "Professor Neu and Professor Malkin performed an extraordinary job over the past three years in overseeing our undergraduate program. They deserve our gratitude."
