Since 1957, Pierre R. Lamond has been at the forefront of the semiconductor revolution. Now, he and his family have looked to Duke to continue that legacy by providing the foundation of a $57 million investment in computing.

A landmark $57 million commitment from the Lamond family has named the Pierre R. Lamond Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering. The gift establishes the prestigious Pierre R. Lamond Presidential Distinguished Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering, supporting groundbreaking research in semiconductors, nanoelectronics, advanced computing, and next-generation technologies. With advanced computing and AI hardware now essential to national competitiveness, this investment strengthens Duke’s ability to attract world-class faculty, fund Ph.D. fellowships, expand student opportunities, and accelerate innovation in computing technologies.
