Thursday, April 25, 2019

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Gross Hall Atrium, First Floor

The +DS Projects in Medicine and the Health Data Science Internship Program will hold a student showcase on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 10 AM - 12 PM in the Gross Hall Atrium. Students will present posters and "lightening talk" presentations about their work. We invite you to join us to learn about their work, and converse with the students, mentors, faculty, and staff. Light refreshments from Foster's Market will be served. The +DS Projects in Medicine is an 8-month program where students have applied state-of-the-art deep learning technology to image analysis, with the goal of assisting clinicians in making decisions on diagnosis and delivery of care. During the fall 2018 semester, students received training in deep learning with a particular focus on image analysis, constituted via the online +DS learning modules, and via complementary in-person learning experiences. 13 student teams were formed in spring 2019, mentored by leading Duke faculty involved in data science research with areas of focus in dermatology, ophthalmology, pathology, radiology, and cardiology. This program offers Duke students, both undergraduate and graduate, the opportunity to be a part of research teams applying advanced data science methods and machine learning to important areas of medicine.
