FIP Seminar: Co-hosted with CEE 'Sensors for Environment Contaminants'
Wednesday, February 27, 2019
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Fitzpatrick Center Schiciano Auditorium Side B, room 1466
Dr. Peter Vikesland, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech
Peter Vikesland is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech. His research involves the application of fundamental chemical principles to the study of natural and engineered systems. A present focus is on the use of nanotechnology for the detection and remediation of environmental contaminants. Parallel ongoing studies also seek to examine the potentially damaging impacts of nanotechnology on environmental systems. Sensors for Environmental Contaminants We are interested in the development and testing of sensor technologies for the detection of environmental contaminants. A current focus of our work in this area is in the use of Raman spectroscopy to detect both biologic as well as organic contaminants.
