TechConnect

TechConnect networking event

TechConnect, hosted each year by Duke's Career Center, the Pratt School of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science, brings engineering and computer science students together with employers from these industry sectors.

Each year, a panel of employers is selected to provide advice to students seeking internships and full-time jobs. Through this panel presentation, students get a good understanding of the characteristics employers seek as well as a realistic view of the job market for students interested in engineering and technical careers. Much of the advice our panelists will provide is very relevant for students in their first and second year of college.

The panel discussion is followed by a vibrant networking event. Students from all classes are welcome to visit with employer representatives, many of whom are Duke alumni. This venue provides a less formal environment than the traditional Career Fair, which takes place earlier in the day at the Bryan Center. Our format of providing company-specific chat areas and signage for each company offers students and employers an easy way to connect with engineering and CS students.

Sponsors

We encourage companies who have an interest in hiring Duke engineering and computer science students for internships or full time positions to participate in the TechConnect events, in addition to Duke's traditional Career Fair. TechConnect, which takes place before the fall and spring career fairs, allows you to interact with students in an informal social setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Industry Representatives

Can we bring corporate giveaway items or literature about the company or jobs?

We ask that you only bring business cards or business card size info cards. TechConnect is more focused on the networking and information exchange aspect of connecting employers with students than swag. This also reduces the environmental impact of recruiting as well as your need to haul in extra items, not to mention the $ it will save in product and shipping!

What is the dress code?

Business casual is the typical attire for employers. Most company representatives wear their company polo and slacks. Students will tend to dress more formally as they view this as an opportunity to make an important connection with industry representatives.

Will students bring resumes?

While TechConnect is more of a networking event, students do bring resumes.

Who attends TechConnect?

TechConnect is open to Engineering and Computer Science students currently enrolled in a BS, MEMP, Meng, MS, or PhD program at Duke University.
