Tom Sawanobori of Verizon Communications

Tom Sawanobori is Vice President of Network and Technology for Verizon Communications, leading wireless and wireline access technology and planning. He is responsible for technology strategy, standards development, spectrum strategy, network planning and regulatory support. His teams lead assessment of new technologies and plan the evolution of the wireless network, including CDMA/ 3G EVDO and 4G LTE radio and enhanced packet core networks. He performs technology assessment, conduct trials, drive requirements with suppliers, and prepares new technologies for implementation. On the wireline side, his teams drive the Passive Optical Network technology evolution. Together, his plans leverage Verizon networks to provide high performance and efficient solutions for consumers and businesses to grow revenue and enhance profitability. Tom has 20 years of experience in technology and network planning, capital management, and operational leadership roles with Verizon and AirTouch. He currently serves on the board of Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS). Tom holds a Bachelor¿s Degree in Engineering from Duke University and Master¿s in Engineering from California State University, Fullerton. The title of this seminar session will be "Technology Leadership." It will be held in the Schiciano Auditorium, located in the Fitzpatrick Center, from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
