Understanding limited energy resource availability has been a perennial challenge since humans first harnessed fire. In recent years, vast quantities of energy data sources have been emerging through the deployment of smart metering infrastructure and improved data collection and curation of organizations like the U.S. Energy Information Administration. I'll discuss emerging efforts to learn more about the energy system and how to increase its efficiency through visualized energy data. One example I'll discuss is how visual data, namely satellite imagery and aerial photography, are being used to automate energy resource assessment.
