Data sonification is the process of representing data audibly. By transforming data points into acoustical signals, sonification can facilitate novel or enhanced interpretation of the data -- alone or in conjunction with other analytical and visualization tools. This seminar will explore the status of data sonification, how it is created, how it can be used to supplement data visualization techniques, and how it can create multi-sensory immersive data experiences. I will present several data sonification projects spanning a variety of topical disciplines from economics to geology, and provide a brief walkthrough on how to create your own.
