How good are we at reading network visualizations, really? Over the past few years I've been chipping away at this question with a series of studies that first refine our definition of network visualization literacy and then evaluate literacy levels across different users, datasets, and visual properties. The results suggest that there are a few things visualization designers can do to improve the accuracy with which users interpret typical network visualizations. You might be surprised by some of the things that *don't* reduce accuracy!
